Welcome! We are excited about your expressed interest in our general surgery program. Our goal here at Mountain Vista Medical Center is to develop and produce good-quality general surgeons who can safely and efficiently perform bread-and-butter general surgery cases upon completion of their training. You will learn sound medical judgment, good technique, and exemplary surgical experience as the bulk of our rotation schedule is in general surgery with Attendings dedicated to teaching.

The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) will guide this residency program's education goals. The program aims to ensure that trainees master the Six Core Competencies as outlined in the ACGME Common Program Requirements. The teaching faculty is committed to training and supervising each resident trainee in general surgery.

Additionally, resident trainees will be presented with comprehensive cognitive and procedural clinical education in inpatient and outpatient settings that will enable them to become competent, proficient, and professional physicians. After satisfactory completion of five years of general surgery, resident trainees will be eligible to sit for the certifying examination conducted by the American Board of Osteopathic Surgeons (ABOS) and/or the American Board of Surgery (ABS).

Mission

The mission of the General Surgery Residency training program is to provide comprehensive training that delivers the cognitive and procedural skills necessary to graduate superior-trained surgeons. The training program will combine high-quality faculty within a high-technology setting to provide first-class training experiences for resident trainees.
