Ƶ the Program

The program is an ideal learning environment with great cases in a supportive atmosphere. We see a diverse population with rare pathology. Our team of physicians, nurses, and staff values the residents and takes pride in our program.

You will have unopposed training in all procedures, such as central lines, resuscitations, intubations, traumas, and much more. Please contact us for more information about the exciting opportunities the program has to offer you as you become an emergency medicine physician.

Mission

The program’s mission is to provide emergency care to the community with compassion and commitment. The program seeks to nourish intellectual creativity and foster a safe environment to allow critical thinking and communication skills that stimulate personal growth and engender professional development. Our mission is to achieve educational excellence while mastering the healing arts with genuine respect and understanding of everyone they encounter. Through the usage of innovative ideas, evidence-based medicine, and best-in-class approaches, residents will gain the knowledge to re-imagine emergency care for future generations.

Aims

  1. To train physicians with competence in acquiring medical knowledge, new emergency medicine research, and the application of evidence-based medicine.
  2. To prepare physicians to face a wide array of community health care needs and apply best practice strategies to meet these needs.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The program selects residents based on emergency medicine-related qualifications and personal qualities, including preparedness, ability, academic credentials, professionalism, communication skills, aptitude, motivation, and integrity. Board scores, class rank, personal statements, and letters of recommendation are reviewed by faculty members to ensure the candidate meets these standard qualifications. Our applicant interview process is structured to ensure that applicant questions are focused on characteristics that highlight applicants’ qualities and the likelihood of succeeding in our training program. In a continuing effort to enrich our clinical learning environment and provide equal educational and recruitment opportunities, our program actively encourages applications from all population groups. Our audition rotations are structured to provide students with opportunities to experience our program and the communities we serve. We aspire to match a diverse group of residents supporting minorities, women, and groups underrepresented in residency. Our selection committee is sensitive to cultural differences and is guided by this awareness when outlining the essential and unique qualifications desired for incoming residents. The selection process has been created to be objective through a scoring system that determines rank. Our Medical School, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, has developed a grant program for underrepresented individuals seeking admission to medical school. Since the medical school also serves as a pipeline for recruitment, and 3rd and 4th-year students’ complete rotations at our site, this provides an opportunity for a more focused review on recruitment of underrepresented and diverse individuals. When able, we aim to retain residents on our medical staff and within our contracting group. Faculty members are also trained in diversity awareness through didactics and small work groups.
