Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine students celebrate their residency Match Day in March.

Graduating students from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) celebrated Match Week in March as they took the next step in their medical careers. 

Each year, CCOM students participate in the a pivotal transition from medical school to residency training. On March 21, 2025, students discovered their residency placements, securing positions in hospitals, clinics, and healthcare facilities across the country. This milestone represents years of dedication and prepares them for the next phase of hands-on training in their chosen specialties.

Nationwide, the 2025 Match was the largest in its 73-year history, with 47,208 applicants, including 8,049 osteopathic (D.O.s) seniors and graduates matched into programs. The match rate for D.O. seniors reached a historic 92.6 percent, reflecting the growing presence and success of osteopathic physicians in the healthcare system.

Austin: Orthopedic Surgery at Corewell Farmington Hills Hospital, Farmington Hills, MI

Sara: Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN

Describe your reaction when you found out you matched:

Austin: I was ecstatic. It’s been a dream of mine to become an orthopedic surgeon. Seeing the hard work I’ve put in over the last four years of medical school pay off with my dream job is the ultimate reward. I can’t wait to get started!

Sara: When I saw my match result, I felt an overwhelming sense of excitement and gratitude. Knowing that I would be joining such an exceptional program felt both surreal and deeply rewarding. It was a culmination of years of hard work, and I couldn’t wait to take the next step in my journey as a pediatrician!


How did your education at ³ûÄñÊÓƵ prepare you for this opportunity?: 

Austin: CCOM has excellent clinical professors and great rotation sites which helped me become a well-rounded medical student and ready to take the next step to residency.

Sara: CCOM provided a well-rounded clinical education through rotations in community, rural, and academic settings, helping me develop adaptability and a broad clinical perspective. Fourth-year elective rotations across different regions further expanded my exposure to diverse patient populations and pathologies.

What do you look forward to in this upcoming experience?: 

Austin: I look forward to helping patients get back to doing the activities they love. I also look forward to learning and growing with my fellow residents at my new program to become the best orthopedic surgeon I can.

Sara: I can’t wait to meet my co-residents and work together to care for kids and their families. I’m especially excited to build connections with my patients, making medical care a little less scary and a lot more comforting for them.
